Net Hydel Profit (NHP)

Peshawar, Pakistan – The National Think Tank - Good Governance Forum, in collaboration with the Institute of Management Sciences, Peshawar, successfully conducted a seminar today focused on the critical topic of Net Hydel Profit (NHP). The event was held at the Institute of Management Sciences, attracting a diverse audience of participants from academia, political parties, and technocrats.

The seminar commenced with a welcome note from Dr. Syed Akhtar Ali Shah, Chairman of the National Think Tank and former Home Secretary & Inspector General of Police. Dr. Shah provided insights into the legal aspects of Net Hydel Profit, emphasizing its significance for the region's economic landscape.

Keynote speaker Mr. Fuad Ishaq, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, presented an industry perspective on hydel prospects, highlighting the potential benefits for local businesses and the economy.

Mr. Himayatullah Khan, a Technical Expert on Net Hydel Profit and former Adviser on Energy and Power, delivered a comprehensive presentation that included an analysis of the AGN Kazi formula, the impact of hydel power generation on the country, and the advantages of wheeling. His insights underscored the importance of optimizing hydel resources for sustainable energy production.

Engr. Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, former Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, addressed the audience on the importance of Net Hydel Profit and its implications for the province's development. His remarks highlighted the need for strategic planning in harnessing hydel resources effectively.

Dr. Usman Ghani, Director of the Institute of Management Sciences, concluded the seminar by reaffirming the institute's commitment to promoting discussions on relevant topics that contribute to societal progress. He noted that IMSciences stands apart from universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by fostering an environment conducive to such critical dialogues.

The seminar concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, where participants posed insightful questions, reflecting the high level of interest and the relevance of the topic discussed.

Role of Police as a stake holder in the Criminal Justice System

Dr. Syed Akhtar Ali Shah delivered an insightful lecture on the “Role of Police as a Stakeholder in the Criminal Justice System.” In his address, he emphasized the critical role of the police in ensuring justice, maintaining law and order, and upholding the rule of law. He highlighted how the police, as a key pillar of the criminal justice system, work collaboratively with the judiciary, prosecution, and correctional institutions to ensure effective law enforcement and the protection of citizens’ rights. Dr. Shah also discussed the importance of accountability, transparency, and community engagement in enhancing the credibility and efficiency of police institutions. His thought-provoking insights provided valuable perspectives on the need for reforms, capacity building, and the adoption of modern policing strategies to strengthen the criminal justice system.

Round Table organised by ESaR and Good Governance

The roundtable discussion, organized by ESaR and Good Governance, focused on the critical role of governance and leadership in bridging societal divides. Experts explored how political polarization undermines national cohesion and impacts security. The event emphasized the need for strong, inclusive leadership and effective governance to foster unity, mitigate political tensions, and strengthen national security.
